Q: Vinyl siding and garage door installation?
I was given a couple of quotes for an installation of vinyl siding on a standard size two car garage and a garage door (no opener-just the door). The cheapest quote was for $2,500. This includes trim and tyvex of course. This in the Chicago land area. Anyone know if that's a good price?

A: Sounds like a steal. The last aluminum two-car garage door that I sold was for $1700

I need something that won't take long to learn. I might be willing to start off a helper but I need something that won't take long because I really need the money quickly. How much can I charge for my services?

A: There was until the housing industry took a nose dive. After storms and disasters there is always a need. Used to we could not find any of the above and now they are knocking on our doors wanting work for a cheaper price.

Q: Landlord permission for garage door opener installation in CA?
In the state of CA, what are the tenant's rights regarding the installation of a garage door opener by the tenant (at the tenant's expense)? Can a landlord refuse such an installation? I have a double garage where a previous tenant already installed a garage door opener on the other side. I have already requested permission from the landlord but I have still not yet received a reply after 2 weeks.

A: It's the landlord's property NOT yours, and yes then can refuse permission. It requires modifying their building and could create liability for them. Don't act without written permission from landlord. Follow up with landlord, call or write again requesting permission. And after installed, the garage door opener becomes the property of landlord and must be left there, even though the tenant paid for it.

Q: How much does a single garage door cost (plus installation and opener)?
I'm just looking for a ballpark figure. A decent door with decent insulation. Does the $300 - $500 include installation and installing an opener?

A: I agree with Lea, word of advice do not go through Home Depot. I work there at the moment and there installation and service is crap

Q: Garage door installation - ballpark cost?
I got an in-home estimate from Sears to replace our garage door (we bought the house "as-is" and there's no door, though there are old tracks). The door needs to be 8' high x 16' wide. Sears quoted me $4800 for a carriage-house-style steel door (and it's not bottom of the line, but not super fancy at all). In looking at the prices people have listed on here, that seems really high. So I was able to find the EXACT same door (literally, same manufacturer) from an online company for $1600 but they don't install. What can I expect to pay for installation of this door in southern CT? And how do you find someone to install the door if you're not buying a door from them?

A: Sears sub contracts all their work so it will be more expensive check www.mascocontractorservices.com for a branch near you They use several different brands mainly Wayne Dalton.I would buy the door from an online company because you don't get the warranty with it.What happens if it is installed wrong? or if it comes damaged Be safe and check out local contractors an 8x16 should run you from 300 to 1500 also check the wayne dalton website they have a variety of nice doors and carriage type doors as well I think you may want to look at their 9600 series

Q: Garage Door Installation Help?
My husband bought a new garage door to replace our very old one. Whats the best way to release the tension on the spring of the old door. Any help would be appreciated, I dont want his arm cut off when/if this thing flies! Thanks.

A: You open the door till you see the springs fully compress. Then clamp the door open with vise-grips or prop it up with some 2x4's. Remove the springs and cables. If the door is heavy, get some help and ease it down manually. Then you remove the hardware and panels starting at the top. Good Luck

Q: what can a garage door business average in revenue and profit per year?
if you want to open a garage door installation and repair service. what can i expect to make anually?

A: It would depend on how many doors you expect to install.

Q: How much does it cost for a garage door, insulated, plus installation based on good, best, better quality?

A: Generally garage doors are either tilt-up models or have hinged panels that roll up and down. Average sized (16x7 foot) aluminum single-piece tilt-up garage doors run $400 -$700 (installed), are extremely lightweight, and don't rust -- but they do dent easily. Installation of an average 16x7 tilt-up wood door of flush construction (exterior plywood or siding to match the house mounted on a frame of fir or other soft wood) starts at $400 -$700; for sectional roll-up wood doors designed to be painted it's about $800 -$1,000; higher-grade roll-up stained wood panels average $1,200 -$2,000 or more, depending on the type of wood and any decorative additions to the panels; and custom-built wood doors start around $2,500 -$3,000 and go up from there. Wood is popular for its natural look and style, but needs regular maintenance to avoid warping or cracking as it ages. Expect to pay $750 -$1,200 to have an average-sized 16x7 foot steel garage door installed. The less-expensive models are usually thinner metal and may be single skin; double-skin doors have foam insulation between two panels, giving a nice look both the inside and outside. Premium doors are typically 2 inches thick, filled with insulation, have thicker steel panels and include weather-stripping and weather seals. Steel doesn't rust and doesn't need repainting as often as wood does, but it will dent and repairs can be difficult. Whether it's metal or wood, garage door manufacturers provide many styles, from a basic frame-and-panel design to sculpted segments, horizontal ribbing, or built-in narrow strips of single- or dual-pane windows across the top of the door that are both decorative and a source of light in a dark garage. Models with these options tend to be in the higher end of the price ranges. Installing a garage door is considered a medium-difficult do-it-yourself project for a two-person team, at an average cost of $400 -$600, depending on the type of door chosen.

Q: Sims 2 Garage Door Installation?
On my sims 2 game i keep trying to build a garage around my driveway i have put in. but it wont let me, it keeps telling me location out of bounds when i try to put walls up all the way round it than when i go to put in a garage door it says must be placed in between a drive way and its extention well... thats where i am trying to put it!! very frustrating! any help please?

A: Try putting in your driveway and then adding the extension. Next go to the walls tab and select the tool that lets you create a box. Click and drag on the upper left hand corner of the extension part of the drive way and drag it down toward the lower right hand corner unti it makes the box around the extension part of the drive. If this is not working then you have your driveway too close to the edge of the lot. Try putting the driveway at least 2-3 rows from the edge. Hope this helps!

Q: were would i find information on garage door operators installation with instructions?

A: you should get all the info with the opener when you buy one.if not ask for it.

Q: what are the installation charges for garage door opener?
Its for a new home which is prewired for an opener. I live in alpharetta GA

A: Cliff C is right. Most door companies (us included) will give you an estimate over the phone. The "center spring" not only may not even apply to your particular door but it also has nothing to do with the installation of an automatic opener. We're in NC and we charge somewhere around $300 - that includes the opener and installation. There are some variables though that can alter the price such as door height and whether the opener is chain, belt, or screw driven. A local door company can walk you right through all of that. Hope this helps!
